Black Duke presents...
The "Film School" Years
Reaper - Socklepto - Sol - Don't Trust Anyone

"Reaper"
a short film by Scott Summerton

My first film ever, "Reaper" was an assignment designed for us to learn how to properly expose film and use black and white in the same way that the early filmmakers had to do. Mine was an offshoot of Jennifer Saindon's "I, Witness" in which the character later named Tibor Squampsenkack (Loughead) was killed. In "Reaper", Tibor met Death (Griffiths) himself...

It currently remains unedited and silent, and likely will remain as such for the near future.

a co-production of Nalogg Uncorporated, Confederation College Films and Free Time In A Small Town/Frostbite Films

"Socklepto"
a short film by Scott Summerton

Our next assignment was to utilize colour balancing, again mimicking the early filmmakers. In "Socklepto" I have probably my only 'message' in that the Greyscale Guy (Landon) is searching for something colourful, mirroring our transition from black and white film to colour film. Basically, Greyscale Guy is looking for that one item of colour, and decides to root through Colour Dude's (Griffiths) stuff to find it.

This one is also still silent and unedited.

"Sol"
a short film by Scott Summerton

Our main assignment of first year, combining not only colour but also sound and editing, was much bigger than our previous ones. I had written "Outflanked" but decided I'd rather see how someone else would direct it (as Tim Hales did) and chose another script from the class. "Sol" was a cool idea Jeremy Landon had no real intentions of directing so I went for it pretty quickly.

The premise was based on two simple themes. First, if the Sun were to explode, we wouldn't know for eight minutes. Second, the Mayans predicted such an event would occur. In "Sol", Ray (Izma) finally determines when the event will occur, but when it does, no one believes him and he goes mad.

The film is edited and the soundtrack has been finished. There is no music and it may remain that way until a decision on compiling it is made. For now, the assemble edit is all that exists until the audio tracks can be compiled into one.
